Planning Your Unique Senior Portrait Session: Location, Location, Location!

Your senior portraits should reflect who you are. When you book a Unique Portrait Session with us, we will not only take your yearbook portrait and casuals at our new studio, but also give you the opportunity to head off to a location of your choice. When choosing a location, think about a place that is special to you. It could be a place you hang out with friends, somewhere that represents who you are as a student or athlete, or somewhere from your childhood. A location that is special to you can serve as a backdrop that gives your photos an automatic theme and adds instant appeal.

If you don’t have that perfect place in mind, we wanted to give you some inspiration. Here are our top five favorite locations:

1) Stony Creek Village and Trolley Trail, Branford, CT: This location has a great variety of water and trails, a trolley bridge and my favorite a graffiti wall.

2) Branford Point, Branford, CT: In my opinion, one of the best beach spots on the shoreline for photos. There are two beaches, various trails, and depending on the time of year, beautiful gardens.

3) Downtown, Guilford, CT: Guilford has so much unique architecture, small alleys and of course the green. At this location, we can create many different looks all within a short walking distance.

4) Old Atlantic Wire and MIF Buildings, Branford, CT: This is a personal favorite of mine, but it has to be right for you. They are both run-down, abandoned factories with lots of brick and vintage architecture. It also sits right on the Branford River.

5) Hammonasset State Park, Madison, CT: Filled with water views, beaches, and boardwalks, this location will provide us with plenty of different backgrounds to work with. Because this is such an expansive outdoor location, we may find it difficult to utilize all it has to offer. Please be aware there is a small admission fee.

There are also so many locations we haven’t had the opportunity to shoot at yet. Here is just a few. Maybe you would like to be the first?

1) Yale University, New Haven, CT: I had my own engagement photos taken here. This iconic campus, located in the heart of New Haven, is not only filled with gothic architecture, but is surrounded by city life and activity.

2) Lighthouse Park, New Haven, CT: This location features trails, beaches, a carousel and of course the famous lighthouse.

3) East Rock Park, New Haven, CT: This park is located at the summit of East Rock, more than 350 feet above the floor of the Mill River, creating a fantastic city backdrop.

Studio Test Shots

Since moving into our new studio we have been working on creating some new looks for seniors. Because we were so limited by space at our old studio we could only do casual shots outside…we are working on some new backgrounds and looks for casual indoor shots. Here is the first test shoot with the staff…thanks to Carli and Tiffany for modeling for the afternoon. More of these to come as we create more new looks…add props and add backgrounds.

We have been getting busy with senior portraits over the past few weeks. Michelle was actually our first customer of the year.

We are doing the school photos for East Lyme High School this fall and quite a few of their seniors have scheduled with us over the summer.

CT Senior Portraits- Brittney

All senior portraits are important, but this one was a little more important than usual…you see, I have to live with this one!! I have taken many pictures of Brittney through the years, but this was the one time it was all about her…well, her and her horse, Tyler. Here are a few of my favorites….more realistically my favorites that were approved by Brittney. The one I liked the most I was told in no uncertain terms would not be posted anywhere!!!

As the official photographer of Branford and Guilford High school we spend most of the summer photographing next year’s seniors…we started our appointments right after graduation and they will run through October. Here are a few of the favorites from the first week…we offer two different options. The first involves a few outdoor poses around our studio and the other is on location…samples from both are below. To all the seniors below…sorry for the wait.

The three girls are triplets…all graduating from Branford High School in 2010…after doing all of their individual photos we fooled around with all of them together for a little while.
